You’re Not Crazy, But Your Doctor Might Be

Have you or someone you loved been in a position of having symptoms, feeling like hell, and knowing something is obviously off with your body? You go to your prized doctor, they run their labs, tell you everything is fine. When you insist something is not fine in your body, they dismiss you, gaslight you, and act as if you are crazy. I’m here to adamantly tell you that in those awful situations, the doctor is the crazy one, NOT you. Then maybe you do the diligent research yourself to find a specialist, maybe even a functional medicine doctor. They tell you the same thing- all labs are normal. Maybe you do that multiple times, same answer. Until you get the answer and solution, I will keep insisting: you are not crazy, but those doctors dismissing you are crazy. I promise you that if you have heard any variety of the following, there is something off in your body, there is a solution, you can heal, and you can feel much better.

  • Immediately prescribes you medication without asking you about your nutrition, sleep, water intake, stress levels, relationships or physical activity.
  • “Your labs are all normal.”
  • “It’s just genetics.”
  • “How you feel is just your age.”
  • “Your body is just sensitive.”
  • “It’s just part of modern day living.”
  • “It’s just stress.”
  • “There’s nothing medically wrong.”
  • “It’s all in your head.”
  • “It’s just part of being a woman.”

Follow by some variation of:

  • “There’s nothing more I can do.”
  • “You are fine.”
  • “You’ll just have to live with this.”
  • “It’s not curable.”

As a Functional Medicine company owner, where I do what I do professionally because of my previous health journey, it’s a fine line between sharing my knowledge and maintaining personal privacy. Each person on my team also has this background and fine line to walk, and that evolves for each of us as we continue our careers. Most of us would agree that we keep 95% of our previous health journeys outside of work, and use that knowledge to power our life changing results with clients. However, when it is necessary for me to share personal information to prove a point or help another person, I don’t hesitate.

With that said, I personally saw TWENTY-EIGHT doctors and specialists over seven agonizing years who ALL dismissed something was wrong. Some of them were ranked as the world’s best doctors. It was OBVIOUS in my face, skin, energy, and symptoms that something was very wrong. First, multiple western medicine doctors failed, then multiple functional medicine doctors failed, then every type of specialist failed. Imagine being dismissed that many times when I knew I was not okay, even while doing all the healthy lifestyle things. Luckily, that twenty-ninth doctor believed me, knew the tests to run, and had the solution. After seven years of feeling like I was dying, that doctor’s protocol made me feel 90% better in SIX weeks and 100% better in a short THREE months.

That experience changed the rest of my life, making see – and experience- the world completely differently. It makes me analyze all of our world’s systems, beliefs, and treatments. It motivates me every single day to empower others in their lives and use health as the means to live excellent lives.  I believe in you to know when something is wrong, to insist on needing treatment, to resist being dismissed as fine, and I send you all the hope until you get better.
