Step 1, Find Your Self-Worth

When looking to make change, it’s very common to hear coaches ask clients, ‘What is your why?’ This is a valid question and can possibly produce results. From my experience, it takes going to a much deeper level first- and that is finding your worth. Long-term change, in any area of your life is only possible when you can feel your worth. Living from a place of deep self-worth is what will enable substantial, long-lasting change in any area- your physical health, relationships, circumstances, finances, anything.

Self-worth. Two words that have possibly the biggest effect of our existence on earth. An energy that has the potential to be constantly affected by society, jobs, peers, marketing. A force that we must study, learn about, and take control over so we are in control of it- instead of letting the outside world affect it. Our brain’s perception of self-worth began before we can even remember. It can take a lot of work to rewire what the subconscious is affecting through that story.

Self-worth is a God-given right when you are born. Even if you don’t believe in God, you can believe that you arrived to earth worthy. Try looking at any baby or child and imagine telling them they aren’t worthy. Anyone can see the light, joy, and peace in a baby. That is because we all arrive with self-worth as a given- as clear as the fact that you need food, water, and shelter as a human. So where did it get lost? Without diving too deep or being too negative, it can easily be lost along the way. School, teachers, peers, social media, religion, advertisements, social media, extended family. Did you ever receive a class – or even a conversation- about self-worth growing up?

So what defines your self-worth? Your job? Bank account statement? Physical appearance? Absolutely not. However, there is a very real, undeniable direct connection and we need to reverse the cause and effect. What if you took the time to dig deep to know, feel and embrace your God-given self-worth? I am positive, that if you know your self-worth, then this has a direct effect on the improvement of your physical health, career, relationships and finances. Does self-worth mean egotistical? Absolutely not. If I know my self-worth on the deepest level, that does not make me any better than any other human being. We are ALL born with this self-worth- even the homeless guy on the corner- and we never lose it no matter that the life circumstances. We can access and empower this force at any point in our life.

We see a lot of patients facing self-worth work while they navigate their health journeys at rock bottom. I am quite positive that sometimes, this is the point of health journeys- to completely recalibrate life to a higher ground, routed in deep knowledge of self-worth. If someone is left with depleted health, no job, no partner, no community- then by society’s standards this would mean zero self-worth. But imagine being able to find self-worth when at rock bottom- if someone finds it here, then it never will be lost again. You too can embody it, no matter what you are going through.

It’s not just a nice-to-have, it is an absolute essential when trying to make changes with your health. How is your body going to possibly become healthier if you don’t truly believe you’re worth of it? How are you going to make the consistant daily changes if you don’t truly belive you’re worthy of it? Impossible. Additionally, it’s not a selfish persuit to find your self-worth. The more you feel worthy, the greater you will make your life, and the better the world will become.

It can be a long, winding, unexpected road that leads to the most beautiful changes. On my own personal journey with this, completely unexpected, it was my first personal finance group class that was one of my biggest teachers. It was a finance class that turned into a self-worth class that made me (and all of us) dig to very deep levels – more than any course/coach/teacher ever had. I hope for you too that you open yourself to the greatest, most unexpected teachers. Spoiler alert: killing it in your career, having a dream partner, accomplishing a hobby, buying a luxury car, traveling the world, buying designer clothes, and gaining 1M social media followers are not going to teach you and heal your self-worth.

At about age 7 months, we taught my nephew the saying, “Charlie is SMART, Charlie is STRONG, Charlie can do ANYTHINGGG!” Now he is 2 ½ and cheers it by himself. I hope that is in his head for his entire life. . As a start, whenever you need it, you too can enter you name in that chant. I consistently chant it to myself when cold plunging and I actually can stay in double the time.

“What if everything in your life is a direct reflection of what you think you are worthy of?” -Anonymous (This can be a painful question, but it absolutely will get you thinking- and acting- on this.)
